AAWIC Educational Series

The AAWIC Educational Series is presented bi-monthly, featuring established professionals in the entertainment industry discussing various career insights. Presented by Ufront Media and hosted by Roger Maloney, CEO of UFront Media, the audience is provided with the opportunity to learn from and direct their questions to industry leaders regarding their chosen profession.
The AAWIC Education Series will take place on the last Friday of each month—from 7:00-8:00pm EST—via live stream.
The series is free and open to the public. Space will be limited—on a first come, first served basis.

Writing for a TV Series 101

So, you want to Write for a TV Series! Learn the important steps in becoming a Writer for an independent TV Series during the October 2022 Educational Series.

October 28th – 7:00-8:00pm EST

Cohost: Roger Maloney, CEO & Founder of Ufront Media

A long-time media professional, Roger has worked with and for companies like HBO, Katz Media, MTV, BET, Grey Advertising, Emmis Broadcasting, Health Science Center, Billboard Magazine Music Conference, and Social Media Week. 

On ufrontmedia.com, Roger hosts, The Spotlight with Roger Maloney, where he interviews entrepreneurs from industries such as advertising, technology, and social and traditional media. 

As a media literacy expert and career development specialist for NYC Board of Education, Roger creates media-related conferences for all levels of education. He also connects executives from technology and media with students at various grade levels through the Building Partnerships for NYC Schools program.

Cohost: Barbara “Roxie” De Laleu

Intrigued by storytelling and connecting with people, Barbara “Roxie” De Laleu uses her platform and powerful voice to inspire others. She is a blogger, entrepreneur, and a New York radio personality (106.1 WBLI) and radio producer (107.5 WBLS).

With two Master’s degrees from New School University under her belt, Roxie is currently pursuing a PhD in Instructional Leadership at St. John’s University. Her goal is to expand on educating global entrepreneurship in the areas of media, cultural responsiveness and engagement, and curriculum development. 

Soniya Mari Shabazz
Guest Speaker: Soniya Mari Shabazz

Soniya Mari Shabazz is a trained actress, writer, and director. She has created, directed, and starred in various forms of art in the following genres: short film (Quarantine: Day 44), series (Real Random), and theatrical production (God’s Grace). She has been a part of writing teams and has also assisted many creatives by writing for their productions.

Soniya is in the process of writing Season 2 of Real Random, as well as two feature films.

AAWIC has provided a platform to showcase experienced and novice filmmakers, directors, producers, screenwriters and/or actors. Our mission is to expand, explore and create business opportunities for minority women filmmakers throughout the entertainment industry. It is the goal of AAWIC to give artistic women a path to fulfilling their dreams through showcasing their talents, exposure to peers’ interaction, and mentoring by established professionals.
